The Bonds of BrothersA person standing
alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back to
back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided
cord is not easily broken. Ecc. 4:12, NLT
Brotherhood, created and spurred on by the Holy Spirit, is
not easily broken. The foundation of Christ in the center can
become the beacon to call others to Himself. Two young men have
experienced this profoundly. Though one may be overpowered, two
can defend themselves.
Since Mahmoud, a young student, first began to follow Jesus,
he wanted to form a small group of friends to study the Word
together, something which is very rare in his country. In God's
sovereignty, Mahmoud met Abdullah. Not long after, they
scheduled a time to visit together. Usually new believers and
seekers of Jesus have a difficult time opening up to each other,
so Mahmoud was nervous about the visit and decided he would ask
Abdullah pointed questions, but would not share all that he
believes - at least, not yet.
However, the moment Mahmoud and Abdullah met, ease and peace
encompassed them. They talked about spiritual things right away,
moving quickly to issues of Truth. A bond of trust visibly
formed between the young men, and a firm foundation for
friendship and brotherhood in Christ began. Soon after, Abdullah
shared that a few months earlier, he, too, had begun to follow
Jesus!
A new journey began: two brothers in Christ are now studying
God's Word together in a large city where there are few
followers of Jesus. They both believe this will soon change!
Some day, many followers of Jesus will gather to study God's
Word in their city and other cities across Lebanon, Syria,
Jordan, and Iraq.
