After an entire month of fasting during daylight hours, the Mu Holy month of Ramadan ended yesterday.
My Ramadan began September 1st in the 100% Mu nation of Yemen. So my first 9 days of Ramadan were truly unique and eye opening as I got to experience this holy time in such a pure Islamic setting.
Then, as I spent the rest of Ramadan in Lebanon I was able to see the gamut of Mu devotion. Some of my Lebanese friends strictly fasted the entire month, while a few fasted parts of the time and others didn't fast at all.
During the third week of Ramadan I was spending time with a Sh Mu friend of mine I'll call Chadi, who told me that he had quit his fast earlier that day. Surprised, I asked why he had stopped. To stop fasting during Ramadan is a serious transgression for dedicated Mu's as fasting during this month is believed to be an important inlets into getting into Heaven. Chadi said to me, "Well, I'm just having some problems with parts of my faith."
Chadi continued, explaining that he was confused and that although he was certain there is a God, there are parts of the Islamic faith that have begun to seem cheap to him. One of his main issues was why God would reward men who lived good lives with 40 virgins in Heaven. "Why would God do that?" he asked out loud. "It just seems cheap."
I was shocked by what Chadi was saying. A group of Believers have been praying for him for some time, but we had only gotten to speak with him a little because he had previously been very closed to talking about spiritual things.
Our conversation continued and bit longer and then later another Believer had the opportunity to share more about JC and give him the Good Book.
PLEASE CRY OUT FOR THESE:
- That Chadi will continue to be open to truth and that God will speak clearly to him and his family.
- For me to have strength and to be encouraged as I'm writing for Cry Out.
- That God will continue to give me intimate friendships with Sh Mu's.
